Challenges...

The area where we develop: Veterinary Medicine have a huge action field.  As a veterinary you can develop in different ways, you can job in so many different places. The problem is the next: there is some areas of our discipline that are full. This is one of the main challenges that our career must overcome, besides the challenge of the social matters and the education.

In our country there are too much schools of veterinary medicine (around thirty), of course this causes a lot of industrial supply and even when the demand probably raises too, this rise it's not enough to respond the needs of the market.  This is a big problem and the solution seems so far, i don't know which it, but i think that a first step is regulate the quantify of universities that impart this career. So this brings us to other challenge: to improve education. These universities not always imparts the best education besides it increase the supply with veterinaries that maybe don't have the best preparation, and i think it goes against of the way that people perceives our career. It fix this problem is a huge challenges because the changes has to came from a state politic, and that is even a bigger problem.
Finally the more important challenge that i see is the social commitment, i believe there is indispensable that one of the works of our discipline be educate people, teaching people. And i like to believe that is a challenge more easy to overcome, but it's hard to believe when you think that there is just one or two schools that have some subject about ethics.

Well, there is a big path to cover and there is so much challenges that i could be mention.  But i hope that we could be doing it something about it.

education?

I believe that education is a basic right, it's the way that you can put in any level, it’s independent of the money that you have, the place where you leave, of the family that you belong, or your dog, or your age...like say some character that some movie that some day i saw: "the education is power", probably it's one of the most important ways that you can take to develop the person that you expect to be. From the place that i see the things, the education is a big motor of each person, of each country and of, i hope, a better world. The big problem: how good it’s the education that i can get? how good it's the education in this country?

It's sad to say, but the true is that education in this country is a luxury, not a right. If you don't have money the education is going to cost you a lot. It's just like anything you can buy in the mall... It's just a transaction of money. People with a good financial situation pay for good schools and there is almost just a step get into the best universities and in the worst cases, they can pay the better private options. Precisely this is one of the mean problems: the way to get into a public university (that suppose it’s a good option in terms of money and quality). The PSU (the admission system) is a joke, it's so easy pay for it like everything else, if you paid a good school before the path to the university is almost done, of course there is exceptions in every side but i am talking about the general. Besides don' forget the cost, if you don't have enough money to pay the university when you leave it, you have a bill of millions with the inconvenient interest rate... And so, like all this it wasn't enough to make you feel "so happy" if you don't have money...you have to choose a career that be profitable, and of course our country made you this work more "easy"...the government allows that anyone with a capital enough can install a university and make a business...then, when they collapse the system what you really want to study it becomes a problem, especially when you think in your future job that is going to be so hard to get…and don't forge: you are going to have a debt of millions.

So, i could be stay a lot of time mentioning the uncountable problems to this education system, i really don't know how we can't fixed, but i am really sure that the solution it's so far of make of the education a business.
I think that even when exist all this problems against, you can do your best and never let that this drawbacks defined your future. But, it's also true that the silence justified something wrong, that the first step (I think) is notice that the things aren't good...that it's really necessary make the education a right.

Fire Ants...

Solepnosis invicta is some kind of ant called "fire ant", it is native from Brazilian, and like most of the creatures in the world it's under a lot of risks. This is more evident when we consider that it live on rainforest and it's constantly threatens by flood. So, the amazing is that these ants have a spectacular survival tactic, which i'm going to explain now.

This strategy involve entire colonies that when the flood water threatens its nest, this fire ants make some kind of living raft that can travel long distances until reach land or in the worst case until the water flood it. Besides they can breathe for air pocket get trapped between them and around their bodies
The fire ants achieve this locking legs and sometimes also mandibles to form the ship escape.

Studies about it show that the strong to grab hold of one another is on average, four hundred its body weight.

This strategy is so amazing that it has been recorded, and studied a lot. Even it has devised a mathematical model to describe how the fire ants stick together. The important of this is that it could be used to simulated the behaviour in a computer and it could be help to develop co-operative between robots.

improvements...

I like my university and i like this faculty and I love study this career, it has a lot of good things. Here there is a lot of green areas, and we are in direct contact with animals all the time, and that is amazing. Beside i love that this faculty be so rural, because i think that i am happier without all that technological things.  But also it's true that I will study more easy with some improvements. So, i'm going to write about the things that i think make me this time of my life easier and productive, to summarize I just write about the three main “problems”
First: The books!! there is not enough at all, and if you have the lucky of find exactly what you looking for, the library just lend it to you for ONE day. It’s awful.  And the best point is that some books are in permanent loan to a few teachers.
Second: There are to much people in the same classroom, problems from this are several. Evidently there is a problem in the amount of teachers and the infrastructure, it’s seems to me that it should not be more than 60 students at one classroom, at least in the other university where I been it works that way.
And finally the funding, it’s more a problem of the entire country, of our educational system and our government.  I think is exhausting be worry about no having money to study, be thinking all the time if you can get a scholarship or a loan.
So, i suppose that i don’t going to learn a lot more things if suddenly the university decided implement a new recreational space or change all the computers in the library. But i really think that my academic performance and my life in general will be a little easier if i don’t have to be worry about funding or have to ask a book three days before, just to can get it. I believe that the first step to make progress is understand that it’s not easy been here, that there is a lot of things behind every person and it should be a right could study.

...i would like to go...

If tomorrow i wake up and i  had the opportunity of go any where in the world, i would really be confused. If i knew more about the different cultures, food and historical monument...probably it would be more easy.  I think there is a lot a places that i'll be happy to know, but when under pressure i sit to think about it the only think that came to my mind is go to China.

I think they have an amazing and rich culture, maybe i think that because i have this idea that they have been able to preserve thousand-year-old traditions, and that is so atractive. Also i would like to eat their food, because it's ridiculous and imposible compare the food that we can buy in our country, that it's probably the worst version that we could ever taste. Besides i would like so much meet one of the seven wonders of the modern world: the great wall of China. Since i was a kid my sister tell me this story about the possibility of see it from the space... and i dreamt with go to there some day.

So, i think that i would be happy to go to China, mostly because is so different to our country and our culture that i suppose it is the reason because it seems to me so atractive.

...transantiago

The transport system transantiago seems a good idea. At least the idea seemed good to me all the time.
I remembered that started in 2007. I remembered the day that started, i had to walked a lot and so late, because there wasn't any bus. Anyway, today the things are a little different. Here is just my opinion about that.

Today there are more routes than the beginning of transantiago, and that routes are accommodated better to the needs of people. For example, in my case today i just need one bus to go home and before i needed more. It's true that a lot of people in the previous system just took one bus and now they have to take a lot of transshipments, but it is also true that the drivers had to drove  routes amazingly extensive before and that it was one of the causes of his tiredness and bad performance. I think that is an improvement of the worker's life quality and therefore an improvement of the service.

Another important point to consider is the payment system. The actual method is very much useful because you don't have to carry all that coins and mainly the driver don't have to worry about giving you the change. I remembered that it was a problem because the driver had to take care of the people and take care of the way. Evidently that was a risk to everyone.

In the bad points, we can say that  still today there isn't the necessary  buses to satisfy the needs of people, and there isn't the education to pay the tariff without a driver forcing them. I think it's the big problem (not the most, but still it's a big problem): a lack of education, and this brings another problem: the government rise the tariff to remedy the hole of money and people that really pay is the most affected. That is awful.

In conclusion, there is a lot of more changes to do for improve the services. Even so, i think this idea is better, but the implementation is poor. Maybe, like another uncountable ideas our country aren't ready for it. Maybe the solution has always been that the public transport belongs to the state. In one way or another, i have to pay the bus every day.

My pets...

People that have a pet can divided in two kinds, i think. First, people who buy a pet and it belong to them in some type of  value object that give some status and seconde, people that believe that a "pet" is just a partner of another species.  I can including myself in the second category. So, I'm going to talk about my three partners of another species in the order that they came to my life.

Firt, came Pelusa, my dog. I found her in the school with my brother that is older than me, and there weren't nobody who could take home. Then, my brother decided to took her to home, and still she is there.
Well, she is the most lazy dog in the world, sometimes when she want to bark, she did it from inside her house because she didn't even want to go out to do it. But she is adorable anyway.

Second, came Tomás..he is the cat of the house. I found some day that i was walking to some job that i had and he was in a sewage, so i couldn't left there. He recovered and today i suspect that he think that he is a human and that the house belong to him. He sleep a lot of time, and when he's not sleeping is because he's doing some stupid thing. The most of the time he is in any place where i be. He kept me company in everything. I love him.

Finally, the newcomer: Pastora, my another dog. She just came to home looking for something to eat and drink and never she left.  I still don't meet she so much, but i know she is so funny, besides she got that pelusa played more.

In conclusion, they are very strange animals, they have personality problems and i love them.

Mi first year...

If i have to do a balance about my first year studying veterinary medicine, i star telling that i feel really happy about doing this. Even when the last year was so stressful, mostly the last months because there was some aditional situations that made me felt so tired, like find a job for the summer and pass all the subjects...and that was a problem in anatomy, still now it's a big problem, just think about that give me headache. Fortunately this subject is annual and finished this term, so i keep traying to defeat it. Anyway, that was an exception because a could pass all the rest.
So, while all this happened to me, i had an emocional bonus at the end of the year... on the one hand my family adopted a beautiful dog, her name is pastora and he is so funny ...and all that was... and is so good, but on the other hand the last year i had to say goodbay to one person really importat to me and that was the most stressful that happened to me in all year... but people go and other come i suppose, and i met some nice people at 2010, good people...and that always is a good thing. Also i learned a lot, i found a summer job, i got scholarship ... and that are some another good things.
Well, i could say that 2010 was a good year.
Finelly, i can do a positive balance about it.
